Two of Holmach’s innovative suppliers will be exhibiting at SIAL Paris from the 16th-20th of October.
Lagarde of France will be on stand 7 D 339 to explain more about their retort processing technology.
Founded in 1954, Lagarde are world leaders in the manufacture of Autoclaves (retorts) and are based just south of Montelimar in Southern France. Most of the world’s leading producers of ambient foods and Europe’s fast moving recipe dish manufactures rely on Lagarde technology to make appetising and safe food products.
Lagarde’s product range includes rotating and static retorts with diameters from 600 to 2500mm and from 1 to 8 baskets in capacity. In addition Lagarde manufacture pilot retorts for product developers and process establishment.
Their latest PC control system, Samantha™, is a touch screen HMI that gives accurate temperature and pressure control in real time to within 0.1°C and 15 mbar respectively, ideal for the new wave of plastic and flexible containers, such as Doypacks – on which Lagarde lead both the human and pet food markets.
Lagarde are able to offer steam/air, raining water, steam spray and full water immersion retorts of all sizes. Each process has its advantages, to ensure all types of products and containers are perfectly processed.
Revtech, also of France, will be on hand at stand 7 E 253 to speak to new and familiar faces about their patented spiral vibratory technology for decontamination, toasting and roasting.
Revtech’s patented Joule effect process revolutionises the de-contamination, sterilising, toasting and roasting of herbs, spices, seeds, nuts, flour and cereals. Recently awarded approval from the Californian Almond Board for a validated 7 log reduction in microbial populations, Revtech’s patented technology has seen a lot of interest from UK and Irish clients with reference sites worldwide.
Designed as a continuous process for throughputs from 150 to 10,000 kgs per hour, the product is preheated without steam – to avoid stripping the product of volatile oils and aromas, and then uses a small amount of steam in contra flow to the product, to achieve the log reductions on spore and microbial contamination.
The basis of the system is a spirally wound stainless tube that is heated by low voltage but high amperage electricity, which can easily regulated and adjusted to vary processing temperatures. The tube uses plug flow vibration to delicately transport the product through the tube.
In order to achieve long term hygienic results, the product must be cooled and the final moisture level controlled to eliminate mould growth that cause aflatoxin contamination, this is done using either another spiral with ambient or refrigerated air or fluid bed coolers.
With the tube temperatures adjustable between 50 and 500°C, toasting or roasting either with or without steam sterilising is easy.
Typical products have included sesame, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, green herbs and spices such as turmeric, pink pepper and cumin. Another application has been the treatment of roots and bark for herbal and alternative medicines.
