The food industry is sitting up and taking notice of a growing new sector: “free-from” foods. In a market where 1 in every 100 people suffers from Coeliac Disease and an increasing number of consumers are opting for a healthier lifestyle by removing gluten and dairy from their diets, the demand for free-from foods is rapidly rising. In the last 5 years alone the free-from food sector has more than doubled and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon.
Our supermarket shelves are stocked with more and more gluten-free and dairy-free products as large and small companies alike expand their ranges and rush to redesign their old packaging to advertise their pre-existing free-from foods. This surge in free-from products is a welcome relief for those who have chosen free-from foods as a health or lifestyle choice who previously had to rely on either internet shopping or multi-store searching to fulfil their nutritional requirements.
Not only are basic free-from products becoming more commonplace in our homes, supermarkets and restaurants, but more exciting and adventurous free-from foods are in development in response to this growing market.
